Welcome Tony Hsu: Understanding The Science of Service

Our newest Senior Deployment Strategist loves to play games, but he's serious about helping local governments with their labor relations.

Please join us in welcoming our newest Senior Deployment Strategist, Tony Hsu!

Tony brings years of experience in deploying labor relations software to government users, but before he dedicated himself to civic technology, he thought he was going to be a biotechnologist. He brings the same attention to detail to serving the public sector.

We sat down with him to ask about his path to Holly, his hopes for his time here, and his favorite board games.

‍

What drew you to working for Holly?

‍Holly’s speed of innovation, listening to customers’ feedback, and delivering an ever-evolving product that addresses the needs of the public sector. Holly’s potential is immense by having the right talent and the right technology to have a significant impact in this market

What drew you to your specific role?

‍I’ve seen firsthand what works and what doesn’t for a Labor Relations platform. I’m here to help Holly build the best-in-class software and sidestep the common pitfalls so it can keep speeding ahead in the right direction.‍

What’s something about your background that might surprise people?

‍I initially wanted to get into the sciences so I have a Bachelors of Science degree, spending a chunk of my studies focusing on biotechnology.

‍What are you most excited about in your time at Holly?

‍The impact that I can have, both within the company, and for the state and local government agencies I’ll be working with! Solving complicated problems, helping people, and making a meaningful difference are things that get me excited to go to work everyday.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Invest early and invest often. We’ll find out in 40 years if this was indeed good advice.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Trying out different boardgames with friends (currently loving Sheriff of Nottingham, Wingspan, Cascadia) and I’m always open to suggestions about what to try next! I also like watching cooking competition shows for inspiration on what to try cooking.

What three material objects could you not live without?

A coffee machine, Google Maps, my Nivea lip balm

‍
Tony, we're lucky to have you!
