Welcome Tommy Bellaire: His Path from Urban Studies to GovTech

Say hello to our newest Product Operations Analyst — an urban planning nerd who decided the best way to fix cities was to fix the tools running them

Tommy Bellaire

Hi, everyone! I'm so excited to be joining Holly as a Product Operations Analyst!

I join Holly after spending the last few years working with local governments and public servants on data problems as a consultant, volunteer, and activist. I started on this path after studying urban studies at Brown, where I witnessed capable government employees get bogged down by red tape and inaccessible data. These experiences pushed me doing data work in the impact sector: building dashboards and impact measurement systems at places like Dallas Independent School District, the SPEND initiative, and the Network for Social Justice.

While I found this data work incredibly rewarding, it also was tedious: in my previous roles, the public servants I worked with and I had to comb through dozens of documents, and create hundreds of Excel formulas to get to a single finding (or spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on consultants!). What excites me most about working to build Holly’s platform is that our AI algorithms allow HR professionals to get insights at the click of a button. This means that our users can focus on interpreting results, allowing them to make informed decisions with more confidence and at a fraction of the cost.

What I Do at Holly

As a Product Operations Analyst, I act as a bridge between local government employees and our engineering team, maintaining the feedback loop that makes our tools sharp. My work falls into three buckets:

  • User Support: Managing our help website, support chat and email, and product updates so everyone using Holly feels supported.
  • Data-Driven Iteration: Using data and feedback from users to propose and scope new features on the platform.
  • Quality Assurance: Making sure new features fully meet the needs of government HR staff.

A Few Fun Facts

  • I'm a massive Survivor fan (favorite season: Palau).
  • Studying urban studies gave me a lifelong love for public transit and the way cities are organized.
  • I'm a certified Wilderness First Responder and have led over a dozen hiking and canoeing trips!

I'm so excited to be part of this team. If you have any questions about the platform, reach out at tommy@hollygov.com!
